Tax Net on Social Media Companies: Fawad Chaudhry

Fawad Chaudhry stated that social media websites must come under national tax net as Pakistan has paid a hefty amount to foreign companies.

Our life has been changed by social media platforms. What was previously impossible to connect with people living miles away now we can have updates about their activities, thanks to Mark Zuckerburg.

Platforms like Facebook and Twitter have made it easy for us not to only connect with our loved ones but also remaining updated about all over the world.  Several countries have passed social media regulation policy that also includes Pakistan, whereas Pakistan is on the top of the list of countries to report content on Facebook to the authorities.

While relating to social media regulations the minister of Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry stated that social media websites must come under national tax net as Pakistan has paid a hefty amount to foreign companies.

 While talking to a private news channel he stated that since countries have taken a step to regularize social media so the considered act is not surprising for anyone. It can make a stop to hateful and harmful content, moreover innocent users would be safe from cyber victimization.

 “Safety of National security and curb of hateful content is the priority of the government, the national coordinator, review committee and high court would decide to remove any suggested content,” he informed.

“The people misusing these platforms for any objectionable content would be stopped from using the technology against the opponents as hateful content and inappropriate material would not be allowed to go online,” he shared.
