State Bank of Pakistan Launches SMS Service

As the season of Eid ul Fitr approaches everyone is thinking about the Eidi they will receive, specially the children. A very important part of receiving Eidi is feeling the crispy notes in your hands which is probably why every year there is a mad rush to get new notes from the banks. So it makes sense that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) launched a SMS service which makes the booking and receiving of freshly issued notes for EidulFitr much easier. All you need to do is send a SMS to 8877 with their CNIC number and the branch code they want to receive the notes from.

A confirmation notification will be received if the branch has not reached its fresh currency quota. However, if one is not received that means the branch has reached its quota. In that case another SMS needs to be sent with the person’s CNIC and another branch code. There is a whole list that is available here of the branches along with the codes they have. This service is available 24/7 until the quota is reached.

Last year, when SBP launched announced this service there were only 1018 branches nominated in 120 cities and there was a customer limit of 1.8 million customers. This year, however, there are 1535 branches nominated in 132 cities with a limit of 2.7 million. This service was launched on the 1st of June this year and will continue till the 14th of June until the customer limit is reached. In the first 4 days of the service over 2.3 million customers made bookings for fresh notes. An individual can obtain three packets of Rs.10, one packet each of Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 as per availability of stock.

This is an easy way to obtain fresh currency notes.
