NUST Team To Represent Pakistan @ Imagine Cup Global Finals


The Imagine Cup by Microsoft is a global competition that empowers the next generation of computer science students to team up and use their creativity, passion and knowledge of technology to create applications that shape how we live, work and play.

Every year tens of thousands of students from across the globe compete for cash, travel and prizes and for the honor of taking home the Imagine Cup! From Pakistan this year the team from NUST is all set to present the country at the global finals.

Earlier this week, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) announced the team “Fe Amaan” from NUST as the National Winners of Microsoft Imagine Cup 2018.  Overall 25 teams from various universities across Pakistan had competed in the National Finals. Team “Data Warriors” from City University of Science and Information Technology Peshawar and Team “IoT Solutions” from Bahria University Karachi were first and second runner-ups respectively.

Fe Amaan is a wearable Fetal Health Monitoring system that prevents miscarriages by using data analytics. The wearable kit works on an IoT model equipped with sensors and connected to a handheld application integrated with Azure databases.

The first-runner ups from City University Peshawar have built an Indoor Positioning System that is to help organizations track employees at a particular time. The team from Bahria University Karachi has built an Air Quality Sensor that can detect air pollutants in a limited range and provide analysis by using Azure Machine Learning Services.

Abid Zaidi, Country General Manager of Microsoft speaking on the occasion said,

“The way we look at our students, we feel that they are the agents of change
and they just need the right set of tools to succeed.”

It’s a global contest for the most original student applications, and the winning team will take home up to $100,000 (US). Here’s wishing the team the very best of luck – Team Fe Amaan, Pakistan is rooting for you!
