LUMS Alumni Sees Success In Developing Application For Online Grocery Shopping

Suncart is an online grocery shopping application in Qatar that has seen tremendous success and growth in the past year. The application was developed by a LUMS Alumni, Khawajar Jaffer, and aims for further growth in the company

Online groceries shopping is rising all around the world. With the world taking benefit of strong IT infrastructure around the globe, various start-ups have emerged as a result of this to make daily tasks more convenient which now includes grocery shopping. One major start-up for this endeavour includes Suncart which is developed by a Pakistani and has taken over the markets of Qatar.

Suncart is a startup which was developed through the Qatar Foundation’s Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). It’s a delivery platform that allows users to order groceries online for delivery right to their door. Retailers can feature their items on the application that is available on Google Play Store and App Store. The retailers can use Suncart’s transportation network to carry out deliveries.

Suncart app features over 8,000 grocery items including fresh fruits, vegetables, household, personal care, baking and cooking, baby, pet care and many more other items. The application was developed by Khawaja Jaffer who currently is the CEO of Suncart and is a LUMS Alumni.Khawaja Jaffer highlighted the need behind Suncart as he went over the outlook of grocery shopping in Qatar. He stated: ‘”We’re bringing a large range of grocery items online, allowing you to do your weekly/monthly shopping from your couch, and ditch the billing queues and parking hassles”.

The services of the company included: shopping from various categories, pin-point delivery location services, create customized shopping lists, decide a delivery timeslot out of 5 slots scattered throughout the day, pay through Cash on Delivery, and engage customers through numerous promotional discounts and offers. Considering how time-consuming buying groceries can be now while at the same time picking quality food items, services such as these add on to the use of e-commerce to help facilitate the need of users and can be easily implemented in Pakistan as well.  Home delivery of groceries by online apps is a good option for users as it saves my time and efforts.
