QMobile and Telenor Pak Launch Country’s First 4G Featured Mobile Phone

QMobile and Telenor Pakistan sign MoU to launch Pakistan’s first 4G feature mobile phone for the public and make 4g more accessible to the public

4G has been one of the rapidly growing telecommunication service in the country today. With a speed reaching international standards, 4G is a popular prospect of telecommunication providers of Pakistan. Currently, Telenor Pakistan has a total subscriber base of 44 million with 28% cellular market share in Pakistan and more than 1,900 employees. As a country working on the growth of 4G and making it more accessible, Telenor Pakistan have partnered with QMobile to launch the country’s first 4G mobile phone.

QMobile and Telenor Pakistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the country’s first 4G abled phone for the public. They are set to launch this feature with the use of KaiOS. KaiOS is a mobile operating system based on Linux, owned by KaiOS Technologies. It is forked from B2G OS, an open source community-driven fork of Firefox OS, which was discontinued by Mozilla in 2016. KaiOS supports powerful features like 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, and QWERTY keyboards. It is based on open-standard HTML5 and allows CSS and Javascript. KaiOS can also run on phones with just 256MB of memory. The US Based company has its own store which allows surfing through the internet, downloading applications and more while using a smart feature phone.

QMobile have aimed to work on this project and allow the facility to users to have the option to gain phones in multiple price ranges according to their convenience.

The collaboration through the use of KaiOS allows both companies the liberty to enter the next phase of their collaboration for a more prominent and successful 4G ecosystem development. Director Marketing at QMobile Zeeshan Qureshi was noted to have said that, “QMobile possesses a decade-long legacy where it always keeps in line with the needs of its customers. Chief Marketing Officer Telenor Pakistan Umair Mohsin spoke on the partnership and said that: “Telenor Pakistan shares its vision of empowerment and technological ennoblement with QMobile which makes the two organizations natural partner for 1st 4G mobile”.
