The Internet Pays Tribute to Madam Noor Jehan on her 91st
21st September 2017 marks the 91st birthday of the legendary singer Madam Noor Jehan. For this occasion, the Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP) partnered with Google Arts & Culture and curated a special Google Cultural Exhibition. Formerly known as the Google Art Project, the Google Arts & Culture is an online platform through which the public can access high-resolution images of artworks housed in the initiative’s partner museums.
Not only that, Google.com.pk also paid homage to the Queen of Melody with a Google Doodle that provides link to the GCI Exhibition created by CAP. The exhibit consists of unique images that have been acquired from her family’s private collection and interviews from various people whose life she influenced.
She recorded nearly 10,000 songs in various languages of India and Pakistan, including Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and Sindhi. The doodle features Madam Noor Jehan in her signature style in purple attire, with a choker and the memorable flower on the side of her hair.
Local music streaming platform Patari.pk also paid tribute to the legend by putting together a series of her performances. On their social media platforms, they shared:
It is always endearing to see how the internet and social media is roaring with tributes for Pakistani legends who have contributed to the nation’s history in several ways, and initiatives like Google Art & Culture or the Citizen’s Archive of Pakistan’s work is definitely a great contribution in the preservation of the same.
